Average FTE
Salary for Part-Time Faculty at Pitt
Pitt's
FY 2010 Snyder Report on Faculty Costs and Faculty Workload
can be used to calculate the average FY 2010 FTE (full-time equivalent)
salaries of part-time faculty in each of Pitt's responsibility centers,
and for the total university. Total university FTE salaries for
the FY 2010 academic term are discussed below.
- For the FY 2010 academic year, Pitt
employed 979.8 FTE part-time faculty (33.6% of the
total FTE faculty). Their salaries totaled $46,122,410, giving
an average FTE salary of $47,074 for part-time faculty at
Pitt in FY 2010.
- For comparison, in the FY 2010 academic
year there were 1934.7 FTE full-time faculty (66.4% of
the total FTE faculty). Their salaries totaled $143,187,824,
giving an average FTE salary of $74,010 for full-time faculty
at Pitt for the FY 2010 academic year.
- Note 1: The
academic term does not include the summer term.
- Note 2: The
$74,010 average FTE salary for full-time faculty at Pitt
calculated from the FY 2010 Snyder Report is for all of
Pitt's campuses, not just Oakland. The AAUP and IPEDS
databases report faculty salaries for each Pitt campus
separately.
- Also according to Pitt's FY 2010 Snyder
Report, part-time faculty taught 42% of the total classroom
student credit hours at Pitt for the FY 2010 academic year,
and drew 24.4% of the total faculty salaries.
- These numbers should not
be surprising given that part-time faculty constituted 33.6%
of Pitt's total FTE faculty and had an average FTE salary of
$47,074 versus $74,010 for full-time Pitt faculty.
- Lastly, the average FY 2010 FTE faculty
salary at Pitt (all ranks full-time and part-time) is $64,954,
according to Pitt's FY 2010 Snyder Report.
- The $81,300 all ranks
faculty salary reported by
IPEDS (Fall 2009) does not include part-time faculty.
- The $90,500 all ranks
faculty salary reported by the
AAUP (Fall 2010) also does not include part-time faculty.
